This week I began working on teaching myself to draw in ink without outlining. I used a simple flower drawing exercise from an artist called Gio Vescovi on YouTube but then tried to complete the drawing without any outline in the ink at all.
I began by sketching out the shapes in pencil like this…
Then I began to draw in ink using an old 005 Pigma Micron Pen. I used the scratchiness of the old pen to lay down a lot of very rough lines to give the impression of shadows on the surface of the petals…
Here’s the final image…
I think I will need more practice to get this technique to really work, but it’s a start!
